FILM FACT: ‘MYLÈNE FARMER LIVE 2019 LE FILM’ is a concert for French singer Mylène Farmer that was held at the Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, France. It began on the 7th June, 2019 and concluded on the 22nd June, 2019. It was Mylène Farmer's second concert residency after Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy in 2006, which took place at the Bercy and is now known as the Accor Arena Hotel in Paris. In 2013, Mylène Farmer went on tour to promote her CD album Monkey Me, before taking a break from performing. Mylène Farmer released her CD album Interstellaires in November 2015, but did not promote the album with her concert tour. The ‘MYLÈNE FARMER LIVE 2019 LE FILM’ was announced in October 2018, one month after the release of the singer's eleventh studio album Désobéissance. It was Mylène Farmer's first residency since Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy in 2006, where Mylène Farmer performed in the Bercy venue for thirteen shows. This was due to the complex stage production, which made it impossible to move the stage scenery to different venues every night.

Andrew’s Blu-ray Review: With ‘MYLÈNE FARMER LIVE 2019 LE FILM’ Mylène Farmer wanted a six-year break, then Mylène Farmer triumphantly returned to the stage, giving a series of concerts in the famous Paris La Défense Arena. The concert programme includes much-loved Mylène Farmer hits and also songs from the new album Désobéissance [Defiance] and this turned out to be the musical concert event of the year!
For the moment, the decor is fully hidden. The only visible parts are the advanced stage and some video boards hanging above the audience’s heads. The screens suddenly blurred and the introduction starts. We see a distinguish face of women in the middle of still picture. The music is deafening, and we hear distant voices and the audience do not really understand what is going on and the atmosphere is a little spooky in giving both futuristic and disturbing look what you are witnessing. Above the audience, is a huge luminous structure that starts to flicker, the lights turn red, sirens screaming and pounding strobes hit the crowd and you see everyone has their eyes looking towards the ceiling. On the massive video screen, the image takes us through a stormy sky and the faces reappear superimposed, music becomes dizzying erratic and a massive shape appears and begins to widen gradually.
The atmosphere you witness gets totally immersive and you feel that something dramatic is about to happen with great anticipation. Then suddenly drums start to gradually get louder and louder and of course you see the audience start to scream and shout with anticipation of seeing the totally amazing Mylène Farmer which you suddenly you see her appear over the heads of the audience and gradually descends into a halo of light and a Gregorian choir accompanies the descent of Mylène Farmer to a massive applause from the audience and on the stage is a structure that starts to rotate on itself. Because of the position of the digital video cameras we do not yet see Mylène Farmer. The structure moves slowly towards the main stage, which is still back to the audience. The screens behind show images of a very modern city plagued with terrible storms, then suddenly Mylène Farmer turns to face the crowd, and the song “Interstellaires” starts and the stage decor gets underway.
The scene is lined with a huge screen that projects the image of a futuristic city, freely inspired by science fiction films like ‘Ghost in the Shell’ or ‘Blade Runner.’ All around, mobile elements are observed, gradually come to fit into each other in the manner of a Tetris, which is like is a tile-matching puzzle video game originally designed and programmed by Soviet Russian software engineer Alexey Pajitnov. The structure thus gets reconstructed and evokes the strange buildings that can be seen on the screen. As for Mylène Farmer, finds her in an amazingly contemporary outfit of a black jumpsuit, with a gold belt around her waist, which is reminiscent of a Michael Jackson costume and then Mylène Farmer drops her hair to her shoulders and is simply totally radiant and I think Mylène Farmer has never been so beautiful on stage.
A wave of chills will seize you when you hear the intro “No Logic,” because it is now well over 30 years since Mylène Farmer has not performed this song in her previous concerts. On the screen, one sees two mammoth bull horns and at the centre stage appears a translucent projection screen, on which draws the animal's face mixed with symbols reminiscent of Indian mythology. This is an opportunity to hear the first real re-orchestration of the evening, for once, is not Yvan Cassar, but Olivier Schultheis, music director and newcomer to the world Mylène Farmer.
Olivier Schultheis was smart, because he has managed to renew this classic song while including full of references to the original song version and here, you can hear the words “This is a blank” and returning several times in the song, but also you hear the sample of a remix that only fans are able to recognise and for me, it is a great success. Another reference to the original song version has also appeared on the massive video screen and you get to see an evil face of Mylène Farmer when the clip shows us where Mylène Farmer is about to skewer the toreador. A total stroke of genius!
After that wonderful surprise, the rest of the dancers enter the stage to join Mylène Farmer and is now surrounded by a total of 16 dancers, who are all dyed red! Moreover, we find Aziz Baki and Raphael Sergio who appeared on the “TIMELESS 2013” Concert, then start the song “Rolling Stone,” which you will enjoy immensely when you view this Blu-ray disc. This is the first choreography of the show and the title works extremely well. Once again, the amazing outfits, the postures and the atmosphere remind me of a Michael Jackson music video. On the massive video screen, appears a gigantic stone marked with mysterious symbols explodes. Suddenly we are back in the futuristic city and dancers perform choreography in staccato rhythm.
Then suddenly we move onto the next song “Stolen Car” who Mylène Farmer does a virtual duet with Sting that appears on a screen above the stage, but eventually Sting walks onto the stage with a massive applause from the audience and then Mylène Farmer does a fantastic and amazing duet with Sting. This performance that I really loved with two amazing singing artists, including music arrangements with the chorus that made me want to dance. It has not yet spoken voice, but it is generally okay. With this concert, the song is not accompanied by backing singers, but just the two of them singing the song. Then I am delighted to see Mylène Farmer follow on with the song “Tears” which is my favourite song from her latest CD album! What was also really nice is the staging is uncluttered, and Mylène Farmer simply works with a few of the musicians. The sequence ends and the interlude following leaves little room for doubt as to the next song that Mylène Farmer will perform.
Then with a short pause, you suddenly get blue and red lights flashing, Police sirens screaming and a car that starts, and then Mylène Farmer starts to sing the amazing “California.” I have loved the original version and especially the infamous and amazing video, but I felt the acoustic and classical guitar did not quite pull it off; it has to be done with the full backing musicians. Fortunately, with the staging, you get to view images of the city, and we see Mylène Farmer ride with four dancers in very strange movements and is now wearing a short dress decorated with small golden chains on her shoulder and lends itself well with the song and looks very happy to sing this song, and it even contains some of the original choreography with the dancers and quite a good performance all round.
Filmed in the stunning CinemaScope aspect ratio, with 30 high definition cameras and this awesome concert had well over 101,107 spectators, including 95,000 in France in over 230 cinemas. Because this concert was filmed in the CinemaScope, you of course get black bands top and bottom of the screen.
One totally amazing aspect of the 2019 concert is the most outstanding, sensational and spectacular choreography ever, which I think is totally out of this world and the best so far of all the Mylène Farmer’s concerts I have in my Blu-ray collection.
On top of all that, the other awe inspiring and spectacular thing I witnessed was the spectacular massive light show and even more spectacular was the awe inspiring video screens that shows us throughout the concert totally amazing video images throughout the concert, which were totally out of this world.
Finally, I cannot wait to finally see the 2024 concert on a Blu-ray release and I bet it will be even more spectacular and I feel it will be taken to another higher spectacular level.
Concert Synopsis: The ‘MYLÈNE FARMER LIVE 2019 LE FILM’ concert was divided into five distinct segments and eventually an encore. Pourvu qu'elles soient douces: With this spectacular dance performance, Mylène Farmer with her outstanding choreographed amazing dancers, and the performance also features dialogue from the original music video.
Stolen Car: With the song “Stolen Car” was at first performed with a virtual Sting appearing in the background on a big video screen, but then suddenly Sting walks onto the stage to do the most awesome duet with Mylène Farmer which is spectacular and you get a massive rapturous applause from a very excired audience.
California: With this song “California” it opens up the second act performance, Mylène Farmer is joined by two guitarists and female dancers to perform a sensual rendition of the song, while in the background features an audacious cyberpunk cityscape.
M'effondre: This section of the concert is performed with the short film ‘Ghost Cell’ playing in the background, which depicted “an organic Paris seen as a cell through a virtual microscope.” Towards the end, the dancers emerged on two stage blocks that were lifted up for the performance of “L'Âme-stram-gram.” The song was mixed with Rammstein's 1997 song “Du hast.” The act ended with a hip-hop inspired dance interlude.
Un jour au l'autre: This opens up the third act of the concert, and we see Mylène Farmer performs three intimate ballads, the first one is “Un jour au l'autre” with Mylène Farmer is in a white gown as Mylène Farmer walks from the stage along the runway. At the end of the runway, Mylène Farmer is joined pianist Vincent Bidal to perform “Ainsi soit je...” and “Innamoramento.” An extended outro was played as Mylène Farmer walked back to the main stage.
Sans contrefaçon: This performance opens the fourth segment of the concert, featuring Mylène Farmer dressed in a sailor-inspired ensemble, and performs a very energetic dance routine before inviting the audience to sing the song together. “Histoires de fesses” was then performed in a jocular way with the LED screens showing anatomically improbable movements created through motion graphic design. The act ended with a rendition of “Sentimentale."
Désenchantée: With this performance, Mylène Farmer opens up the fifth act with an extended version of the song “Désenchantée,” during which a central stage box was lifted and flown above the audience, with Mylène Farmer and two dancers recreating the original choreography on top of it.
Rêver: With Mylène Farmer then proceeds to invite the audience for a sing-along with the famous Mylène Farmer “Rêver” song and is then performed with a pop-rock ballad instrumentation.
Je te rends ton amour: Here we see Mylène Farmer performs sitting on a wolf throne, reminiscent of “Game of Thrones” [American fantasy drama television series] and “Captain Harlock” [A archetypical Romantic hero, a space pirate with an individualist philosophy of life].
Fuck Them All / C'est dans l'air Here we see Mylène Farmer with the end of the main concert and performs mash-up of “Fuck Them All” and “C'est dans l'air” and then Mylène Farmer then thanks the audience as an extended part of the song was performed.
L'Horloge: Here Mylène Farmer performs an encore with the the famous song “L'Horloge” which is a song based on Charles Baudelaire's poem “The Clock,” where Mylène Farmer appears in front of dark clouds and a pyramid of skulls, reminiscent of the painting “The Apotheosis of War,” and towards the end, we see the LED screen depicting flames, and orange-coloured smoke appears on the stage. Farmer is then seen walking through the fire and waving goodbye to the audience. Then, the orange-coloured flames quickly turned grey, and the show ended with the smoke flying away and that is the end of this spectacular and out of this world ‘MYLÈNE FARMER LIVE 2019 LE FILM’ concert.

Blu-ray Image Quality – ‘MYLÈNE FARMER LIVE 2019 LE FILM’ presents this Stuffed Monkey Blu-ray with a totally awesome 1080p image and has been even more enhanced with the 2.39:1 aspect ratio visual experience. The techniques of visual are capture in Ultra High Definition and are observed in every second in an amazing awesome images that is characterised by highlighting the wonderful and amazing colourful imagery which is pitch perfect. Without doubt the Ultra High Definition image is completely total perfection, we can freely state that the quality of video production gives the sensation of recorded ultra-realism and makes you feel you are actually there. Take for example the songs that open the show, during which the dancers are dressed in totally awesome outfits that Jean-Paul Gaultier designed. This Blu-ray you can distinguish the texture of the material in great detail, the detail of the hairstyle worn by Mylène Farmer is superb, as well as the face make-up. The technical prowess is totally natural of all fluidity that has an image that has no Ultra High Definition video artefacts appearances. More than anything, the quality of the images throughout the concert took my breath away that are totally amazing. The images captured on this Blu-ray are totally remarkable that present a perfect record of the sense of space and dynamics that is a totally undeniable success and this concert is the best I have seen so far.
Blu-ray Audio Quality – ‘MYLÈNE FARMER LIVE 2019 LE FILM’ brings this Stuffed Monkey Blu-ray with a totally mind blowing French/English: 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio or alternative French/English: 2.0 LPCM Stéréo Audio experience and of course is out of this world, so will not be making any comment on the Stereo audio track is to miss out on some of the more dynamic realism, whereas the French/English: 2.0 LPCM Stéréo Audio track seemed too simplistic and no depth at all. All in all it is technically impressive masterpiece, but as always Laurent Boutonnat and Mylène Farmer are total perfectionists and it shows with this ultimate perfect Blu-ray disc. The sound is even more perfect, especially with some the orchestration and the voice of Mylène Farmer that is not always live, because of technical reasons. The dynamics are succulent, the voices are well placed and mixing the singers and Mylène Farmer give great “body” at all time, and I really enjoyed the sound of the subtle piano playing and the voice at quiet moments of the concert, really captures the direct, unpretentious post production and times it is totally perfect experience, as Mylène Farmer sings, whispers and breathes live so well and does it with total sincerity. Overall, the French/English: 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track opened up the back channels, especially the roar of the crowd noise and the noises of the technical. Again the French/English: 2.0 LPCM Stéréo Audio track seemed very simplistic and without depth. Anyway, since you have the choice between the French/English: 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and the French/English: 2.0 LPCM Stéréo Audio, all in all, it is entirely up to you what audio track you decide! All in all it is a totally awesome sumptuous audio presentation for this spectacular Blu-ray disc and is a must for all Mylène Farmer dedicated fans!
