Andrew's Blu-ray Review: ‘MYLÈNE FARMER STADE DE FRANCE’ [2009] Mylène Farmer was very excited to book the STADE DE FRANCE on September 2009, and nearly 160,000 spectators attended the concert and was sold out 18 months before the first performance, and made for a very breath-taking spectacle in every sense of the word. It remains one of the few French artists that are able to fill the concert halls and stadiums, especially in France. To appreciate this spectacular show, you cannot comprehend the awesome logistics in building such a spectacular concert you view on this out-of-this-world Blu-ray. Imagine the scene of the people who have to prepare beforehand the concert stadium, and whose dimension includes: 64 meters long, 24 meters high and 22 meters and a 700m video screen which was unheard of at any Stadium. With 80 tons of equipment, its 450 technicians and its monstrous electric power, the show is a feat in itself, especially in terms of its logistics and technical resources deployed. Imagine the horror: a budget of 10 million Euros for the show, and an image HD to worry about to put the icing on the cake! Do not worry; this is not the case, as you will view something so totally awesome that has never been seen on a Blu-ray disc before!
Techniques of visual capture on the awesome and spectacular HD image is to notice every second in the amazing ballet of images that is characterised by highlighting high lighting of sharp colours, which is displayed together with a rendering of black combined which is more than perfect. Without doubt, this Blu-ray 1080p encoded picture is totally perfect and the Blu-ray has some brilliant surprises, to the point that the quality of video production gives you total ultra-realism, to the point you think you are on the stage with Mylène Farmer and you feel you can actually touch her.
Take for example the songs that open the show, during which Mylène Farmer and dancers are dressed in slinky outfits that Jean-Paul Gaultier inspired by the "skinned body." The Blu-ray distinguishes the texture of the material in exquisite detail, plus the details of the hairdressing "skull" worn by Ms. Mylène Farmer and the makeup faces are totally stunning, to give it 100% naturalness overall and very smooth image that has no HD video anomaly look to the image. More than anything, the quality of colour took my breath away and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up on all you view, which is truly most amazing, which this ultimate Blu-ray disc gives totally in stunning picture images that is the BEST you will ever get to view, that really offers a deep sense of space, which is totally dynamic and if you want to impress your friends on what true Blu-ray images should look like, then make this your No.1 Blu-ray reference disc. An undeniable brilliant stunning success all round and total praise for the people who produced this stunning Blu-ray disc. Here are the amazing Mylène Farmer songs and dance routines you will get to view:
Avant la lumière [Before the light] [1:07] This is the build up to the start of the Mylène Farmer STADE DE FRANCE totally awesome concert.
D'entre les morts [The Glass Ballerina] [4:55] The stage is covered with darkness, until the iris of Mylène Farmer shortly appears on a big screen in the middle. This happens several times until the iris one time "opens". An animated kind of film is shown, including skeletons. At the end, the screen gives sight behind itself, showing Mylène Farmer in a skeleton-like cage above a staircase.
Paradis inanimé [Paradise lifeless] [4:42] Mylène Farmer goes out of the cage and downstairs to perform the song. This live version is nearly identical to the compact disc album version.
L'Âme-Stram-Gram [6:16] It is nearly the same choreography like the Mylenium Tour. The introduction features a new one first featuring only Mylène Farmer who is joined by the other dancers until the main part begins. It is a very dynamic electro remix featuring some sound samples of the original version.
Je m'ennuie [I am bored] [4:24] The choreography dance routine was created by Mylène Farmer herself, and is very simple with mainly repetitive arm movements throughout the whole song. This version is similar to the original one, but features some extra sounds.
Outro Haka Je m'ennuie [I'm bored] [2:42] This is just a repeat of the above dance routine.
Appelle mon numéro [Call my number] [5:19] Here we get to see Mylène Farmer in a glittering short dress with red cape with hood. Before the main part, similar to the album version, begins, there's an interlude lasting about one minute and a half.
XXL [6:06] Once again Mylène Farmer is seen again in a glittering short dress with red cape with hood. This dance routine version is very similar to the one seen at the “Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy” concert.
California [4:59] Once again Mylène Farmer is seen again in a glittering short dress with red cape with hood. Again, this dance routine version is also very similar to the one seen at the “Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy” concert.
Pourvu qu'elles soient douces [Provided they are sweet] [4:58] Once again Mylène Farmer is seen again in a glittering short dress with red cape with hood. The same choreography as in other concert tours is used, with only a few changes during the musical bridge. This version uses many electronic sounds. The introduction is composed of Mylène Farmer's voiced mixed like at the beginning of the “Remix club” released in 1988.
Point de Suture [Stitches] [7:50] Here we get to see Mylène Farmer in a blue dress. Before the main part of the song begins, there is an introduction lasting about one minute and a half. The big screen of the beginning of the show appears again in the middle of the stage, showing the sun seen from underwater. During the main part, which is nearly identical to the album version, the screen shows a man and a woman together performing an unconventional choreography naked. This choreography depicts the meaning of the song.
Nous souviendrons-nous [We will remember] [6:17] Once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in a blue dress. Mylène Farmer treats this version of the song very simple, and is only composed for strings and a few piano notes.
Rêver [Dreaming] [8:52] Once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in a blue dress. This version is also a very simple interpretation of the song.
Laisse le vent emporter tout [Let the wind carry all] [5:22] Once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in a blue dress. This version is also a very simple interpretation of the song.
Ainsi soit je… [So either I...] [5:31] Once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in a blue dress. Mylène Farmer is accompanied by Yvan Cassar on the piano. One chorus at the end has been omitted.
Interlude: Avant que l'ombre... [Interlude Before the shadow...] [5:31] Once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in a blue dress. It is a very dramatic instrumental interlude. During the beginning, Mylène Farmer goes up the stairs and then disappears from the stage.
Libertine [5:33] Here we get to see Mylène Farmer in an Asymmetrical business suit composed with a white tutu underneath. The Dancers appear in White tutu and white or black jacket. Mylène Farmer and her dancers perform a new choreography in which elements of classical ballet are incorporated during the verses. This is a very dynamic French rock version. The screens in the back of the arena stage show chessmen.
Sans contrefaçon [No infringement] [6:06] Here once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in an Asymmetrical business suit composed with a white tutu underneath. The Dancers appear in White tutu and white or black jacket. The choreography is similar to the one used for the other concert tours, with some changes during the musical bridge. Many guitar sounds are used throughout the refrains and the bridge.
L'Instant X [The instant X] [4:55] Here once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in an Asymmetrical business suit composed with a white tutu underneath. The stage is covered with red light, while Mylène Farmer is performing the song. It is very similar to the original version.
Fuck Them All [4:52] Here once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in an Asymmetrical business suit composed with a white tutu underneath. The stage is covered with red light, while Mylène Farmer is performing the song. It is very similar to the original version.
Dégénération [Degeneration] [7:27] Here we get to see Mylène Farmer in a Black leather jacket with a golden cross in the back. The dancers are in Beige jackets with a black cross in the back. Mylène Farmer appears standing on a cockroach-shaped chair, while the dancers perform a dynamic modern choreography. Mylène Farmer then stands up and walks to a platform which then rises in the air. This version is preceded by an introduction of about one minute and a half. The main part is nearly identical to the album version.
C'est dans l'air [It is in the air] [8:05] Here once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in a Black leather jacket with a golden cross in the back. Here we get to see the same choreography as used in the music video, including some additional moves. Some sounds of the “Extended club mix” are used during the musical bridge. After the main part of the song, the musicians and dancers are presented on the screen above the stairs.
Désenchantée [Disenchanted] [10:41] Here once again we get to see Mylène Farmer in a Black leather jacket with a golden cross in the back. We get the same choreography as in the other concert tours is used, with a few changes. The sound is very futuristic, featuring many synthesizer sounds. At the end, Mylène Farmer sings again the chorus two times, first a cappella with the audience and then again with musical accompaniment.
Générique [Generic] [6:05] This of course is the end of the concert and a final long drawn out goodbye from Mylène Farmer and acknowledging the loyal support from her very loyal adoring fans.

Blu-ray Image Quality – This Blu-ray is presented courtesy of Universal Music Group that has a stunning and awesome 1080p image. Techniques of visual are capture in HD are observed in every second in an amazing ballet of images that is characterised by highlighting a sharp colour imagery, which appears along with a rendering of black combined with more than pitch perfect. Without doubt the HD image is completely total perfection, we can freely state that the quality of video production gives the sensation of recorded ultra-realism and makes you feel you are actually there. Take for example the songs that open the show, during which the dancers are dressed in slinky outfits that Jean-Paul Gaultier inspired by the "skinned body." Well with this Blu-ray you can distinguish the texture of the material in great detail, the detail of the hairstyle "skull" worn by Mylène Farmer is superb, as well as the face makeup. The technical prowess is totally natural of all fluidity that has an image that has no HD video artefacts appearances. More than anything, the quality of the colour image took my breath away on some shots that are totally amazing. The image captured on this Blu-ray has remarkable images that present a deep record in the sense of space and dynamics that is a totally undeniable success. Please Note: Playback Region B/2: This will not play on most Blu-ray players sold in North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Learn more about Blu-ray region specifications.
Blu-ray Audio Quality – The 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio is out of this world, so will not be making any comment on the 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio track, as to hear it in Stereo is to miss out on some of the much dynamic realism, whereas the 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio track seemed too simplistic and no depth at all. All in all it is technically impressive masterpiece, but as always Laurent Boutonnat and Mylène Farmer are total perfectionists and it shows with this ultimate perfect Blu-ray disc. The sound is even more perfect than the post production, it is very easy by the fact that this is a technically managed by "time-code" concert, with some orchestration and the voice of Mylène Farmer who are not really and not always live. The sound is even more perfect than with post production, especially with some the orchestration and the voice of Mylène Farmer that is not always live, because of technical reasons. The dynamics are succulent, the voices are well placed (mixing those singers and Mylène Farmer give great "body" at all time), and I really enjoyed the sound of the subtle piano playing and the voice at quiet moments of the concert, really captures the direct, unpretentious post production and times it is totally perfect experience, as Mylène Farmer sings, whispers and breathes live so well and does it with total sincerity. Overall, the work on the 5.1 track opened up the back channels, especially the roar of the crowd noise and the noises of the technical. Again the 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio track seemed very simplistic and without depth. Anyway, since you have the choice between the 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and the 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio, it is up to you what you decide! All in all it is a sumptuous audio presentation of this Blu-ray disc is a must!
