Andrew’s Blu-ray Review: ‘POSTMAN PAT: WINTERY TALES’ includes seven wonderful quirky and funny CGI animations that were originally released via the inferior DVD format, but now you can view Postman Pat in glorious Blu-ray disc 1080p and sadly not quite as good 480i image presentation.
This long-running classic BBC TV series of Britain's ‘POSTMAN PAT’ has been broadcast to and loved by young children throughout the world. Featuring stop-motion animation with clay figures, the program tells the tales of a mailman named Pat, who loves nothing more than to make deliveries and help his fellow neighbours in the small English village of Greendale. In Greendale, everyone knows each other and works together to build a happy community, and there is always a project to be completed and a friend to be made.

With each episode, it follows the adventures of Postman Pat Clifton, a friendly country postman, and his "black and white cat" Jess, as he delivers the post throughout the valley of Greendale. Although he initially concentrates on delivering his letters, he nearly always becomes distracted by a concern of one of the villagers, and is usually relied upon to resolve their problems. Notable villagers include the postmistress, Mrs. Goggins; Alf Thompson, the farmer; and the local handyman and inventor, Ted Glen.

Postman Pat’s Special Delivery Service: Twinkly Lights: It’s Diwali. Nisha is trying to decorate the café with special fairy lights to celebrate this 'festival of lights'. Pat delivers them first thing! But disaster strikes, the lights break straight away and they're not working, and they realise that the electricity in the café is also broken and finally as the snow falls down Pat makes it up to the old Post Office in the hills to get the old lights out, hangs them all across the valley and turns them on and Nisha is delighted, the most beautiful festival of lights she could ever have wished for! Postman Pat’s Special Delivery Service: Ice Skates: Postman Pat has to deliver a pair of ice skates to Meera, who saved up for herself. However, Postman Pat gets snowed in at the sorting office and he and Ben must find a way out. Eventually they find a way up to the SDS Helicopter. Meanwhile, Meera is disappointed that she does not have her ice skates to use, however the children are still having fun finding alternative things to do in the snow. The ice skates are then delivered to Meera and Postman Pat both skate together. Postman Pat’s Special Delivery Service: Magic Christmas: It's Christmas Eve in Greendale! Julian would love it to be a white Christmas. He even asks for snow in his letter to Santa. Postman Pat is busy with last minute deliveries before he makes an appearance at the Greendale party in the evening . . . as a very special surprise guest. While Julian and his friends use their ingenuity to sledge and build a snowman...without snow, Pat picks up a jovial, bearded stranger on his rounds who helps him make light work of all the deliveries before mysteriously disappearing. Blu-ray Image Quality – Universal Pictures and ClassicMedia presents us with a wonderful and glorious 1080p image presentation and is equally enhanced with a 1.78:1 aspect ratio, but sadly some of the episodes are shown only in a standard image definition of 480i, but despite this slightly downgraded image presentation, luckily we get to experience very detailed contrast that equally gives us very dramatic colours of blues, yellows, greens, browns and blacks that look very fresh and very stable. Overall, the image quality is very strong and very pleasing and will also please all Postman Pat fans. Blu-ray Audio Quality – Universal Pictures and ClassicMedia brings you just one standard 2.0 Dolby Digital Stereo Audio experience. You will hear very dynamic ambient sounds that are really excellent, that goes so well with the very unique Postman Pat animated films that also adds to the atmosphere of you viewing experience. The dialogue is really excellent, and is also very crisp, clean, stable and very easy to follow. So all in all, this is a very well presented audio soundtrack, and especially hearing the voice cast who are also very excellent and you can hear all the words of the characters in Postman Pat’s Special Delivery Service.

Finally, ‘POSTMAN PAT: WINTERY TALES’ has seven wonderful quirky wintery Christmas themed episodes that is set in the small English village of Greendale, where Postman Pat has to deliver all his letter and parcels in the depth of snowy winter and experiencing the hazards of delivering to all of his customers in the community at the height of winter. With this this Blu-ray disc, each episode likes to promote emotional development, friendship, and community bonds, as well as the idea that close personal friendships are more important than fame and fortune. Children are encouraged to participate in their community, acknowledge public servants, and be kind and courteous to others. Although this computer-generated animation isn't nearly on par with big-budget animated features like you get from Blue Sky or PIXAR, but despite this, the seven episodes you view are still wonderful quirky British animation, where you get to witness charming stories, and especially relationships and human connection, respectively. And the lovely humour shines throughout and makes this British children’s series a lot of fun to watch, especially with little ones and also adults of all ages. So if you are feeling a bit down, well put this Blu-ray disc on and it will banish your blues away instantly. Highly Recommended!
