Now, with hundreds of cases solved and adventures shared, Scooby-Doo and the gang face their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this global “dogpocalypse,” and the gang discovers that Scooby-Doo has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.
FILM FACT: In March 2019, Frank Welker was revealed to be reprising his role as Scooby-Doo, while Will Forte, Gina Rodriguez, and Tracy Morgan signed on to voice Shaggy Rogers, Velma Dinkley, and Captain Caveman, respectively. In May 2020, days before the film's release, it was revealed that voice acting veteran Billy West is reprising his role as Dick Dastardly's sidekick, Muttley and that Cowell's son, Eric joined the film.

Andrew’s Blu-ray Review: The animated film SCOOB! [2020] begins, when Young Shaggy Rogers [Iain Armitage] is a lonely young boy who runs into a mischievous dog Scooby Dooby Doo [Frank Welker] that's stolen a skewer of gyro meat. When the police try to snatch the dog, Young Shaggy Rogers pretends the pup is his, and names him Scooby-Doo. And thus starts a beautiful friendship. That same Halloween, the duo meets Fred Jones, Velma Dinkley, and Daphne Blake and inadvertently solves their first mystery. A decade later, the gang now solves mysteries for a living. But when potential business investor Simon Cowell [Himself] suggests that Fred Jones [Zac Efron], Velma Dinkley [Gina Rodriguez], and Daphne Blake [Amanda Seyfried] break away from their "weak links," Shaggy Rogers [Will Forte] and Scooby-Doo [Frank Welker], encounter a series of unfortunate events sweeps the best friends into a dangerous mystery. It involves superhero Blue Falcon [Mark Wahlberg] and his sidekick Dynomutt [Ken Jeong] and nefarious villain Dastardly Dick [Jason Isaacs] who's trying to find the last descendant of Alexander the Great's dog, Peritas.
The animated film ‘SCOOB!’ [2020] is an animated reboot of the Scooby-Doo Hanna- Barbera franchise. It starts out as an original story and then follows the gang on their adventures as teens. Starring the voices of Zac Efron [Zac Efron], Amanda Seyfried [Daphne Blake], Gina Rodriguez [Velma Dinkley], Will Forte [Shaggy Roger], and Frank Welker (who's been voicing Scooby-Doo since 1969), it's a funny, family-friendly mystery fun that's more appropriate for younger viewers than the live-action films from the early 2000s.
That said, there are several scenes of peril and pursuit, including creepy "ghosts" and a giant, murderous three-headed Cerberus monster; and encounters with a nasty villain and his shape-shifting robot minions. There are also a couple of sad scenes: one in which it seems like a long-lost friend is beyond saving and another in which it appears that one member of the Scooby gang may be permanently separated from his friends.
This animated reboot of the classic cartoon franchise helps bring the goofy Scooby-Doo and the Gang to a new younger generation who will enjoy the shenanigans of these "meddling kids'" and their talking dog. The characters have managed to entertain young viewers for five decades and counting, and kids will definitely still get a kick out of their silly but also dangerous adventures. This time around, Shaggy and Scooby get help from the in-over-his-head Blue Falcon (actually, it's the Blue Falcon's son, Brian, who's dealing with a severe case of imposter syndrome), and his two capable sidekicks, Dynomutt [Ken Jeong] and Dee Dee Skyes [Kiersey Clemons].
SCOOB! has a bunch of jokes clearly aimed at parents that will likely go over young children’s heads and even some might wonder about how Scooby-Doo got his name and why Shaggy talks like a middle-aged person's idea of a young California hippie. There's also the requisite bathroom humour, including a moment when a Pterodactyl [Frank Welker] unloads a huge poop while the Scooby-Doo gang is running around in a manic way. Tracy Morgan also deserves a shout-out for voicing Captain Caveman, a prehistoric man the gang encounters in their quest to defeat Dick Dastardly. It's unclear whether SCOOB! will lead to more animated films, but despite this, it's very entertaining enough to teach the little ones to appreciate the franchise and when to say "Zoinks!"
The action and the adventurous escapades of Mystery Machine Inc. crew are quite relentless too. But not all of it is thrilling. The screenplay is needlessly clunky and overindulgent for young children watching this animated film that features some of the most iconic and nostalgic cartoon characters. The film’s animation is top class, but the emotional aspect of the animated film is solely dependent on the chemistry between Shaggy Rogers and Scooby-Doo.
The animated film has a beautiful animation style, looking halfway between hand-drawn and stop-motion, and there are some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, especially between the exasperated Dynomutt and the social-media addict Blue Falcon. The filmmakers' choice of computerized animation style, emphasizing bold colours and high contrast, looks totally great for props and backgrounds. The closing credits sequence obviously confidently a sequel and the eventual integration of other classic Hanna-Barbera characters, and clearly, the fun has just begun and never has an animated film got so much mileage out of the name Dick. So all in all, I think ‘SCOOB!’ is utterly brilliant and a definite upgrade to the Scooby-Doo television cartoon series and I also really and completely adored this animated film. The animation is really great and it's a nice blend between modern day computer animation and the classic Hanna-Barbera style. The voice cast did really brilliant. Clearly, the fun has just begun! The only disappointment is that it was never released in the cinema as a 3D animated feature film and of course not even converted to 3D for the Blu-ray release, as it is the type of animated feature film that would have been so ideal to be viewed in 3D.

Blu-ray Image Quality – Warner Home Video presents us the animated film SCOOB! comes with an stunning 1080p image that allows its unique visual style to shine with a cavalcade of wonderful colours and some decent detail in the characters and backgrounds and of course is enhanced ever more with the 2.40:1 aspect ratio. The detail in the animation is smooth from start to finish and doesn't have quite the intense textures and detail like a PIXAR animated films does. Instead, the animation has softer detail with a ton of vivid colour that gives way to a good looking image. A few elements of detail pop up such as quaint little hairs on the character's head or on the big pup himself, but it isn't flowing in the wind or anything. Background detail in the cities, carnival, bowling alley, and the climactic scene in Athens look wonderful too. Colours look amazing though as SCOOB! has a dynamic colour palette that changes in each scene from a dark and magma filled evil lair to a neon-lit bowling alley, all the way to a beautiful sunny day on the beach full of primary summer colours, especially in the darker sequences. There are a few instances of banding too, but overall, the picture passes the test and gets a five star rating from me.
Blu-ray Audio Quality – Warner Home Video brings us the animated film SCOOB! with an amazing 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio experience and is crystal clear and is just right for this 2020 animated film. This 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio offers up a wide dynamic range of robust sound effects and it comes crashing in with big science fiction effects as well as some sweeping moments in the score that command your viewing area. The track has great balance and precision, coming across as clear and focused in any given scene. The film booms and stomps with good power. Your subwoofer effectively drops the deep ones on crashes, explosions, laser blasts, music beats and even bird faecal matter dropping to the ground in Captain Caveman’s habitat. No speaker goes left unturned in this mix. While plenty of action hits up front, the mix cleverly has the score accompanying from the rear in a complimentary sense. Sound travel is ferocious and accurate to onscreen action. Vocals are clear and crisp with good detail on the actor diction. Voices are audible no matter the loudness of the action. So a really good all round 5 star audio experience.

Special Feature: Puppies!! [2020] [1080p] [1.78:1 / 2.40:1] [1:05] We are informed that in the History of Mystery Inc., they never expected to see something so very, very, very, very cute in seeing the voice actors play with cute adorable little puppies. Why they had to show this is beyond my comprehension and was a total waste of time, especially as this special feature is just over a minute!
Finally, SCOOB! is a very enjoyable animated film. There are a few good and nostalgic moments here and there, and visually speaking, the animated film is stunning. Warner Bros. brings us a good upgraded Blu-ray disc with some pretty strong results. SCOOB! is a jolly fun superhero film, an entertaining buddy comedy, a clichéd story about the power of friendship, and a loving tribute to classic cartoon characters. Highly Recommended!
