FILM FACT No.2: Writer and director Christopher Nolan conceived the ideas behind ‘T E N E T’ over the course of twenty years, but began working on the script in 2014. The title is a palindrome and an allusion to the Sator Square. Christopher Nolan made a conscious effort to abstain from any influence of the spy genre other than his own memory. Theoretical physicist Kip Thorne, who worked with Christopher Nolan on ‘Interstellar’ [2014], was consulted on the subjects of time and quantum physics. Special effects supervisor Scott R. Fisher watched World War II films and documentaries to find reference points for realism. Production designer Nathan Crowley requested Hamilton Watch Company to manufacture around thirty military wristwatches, each analogue with a digital countdown. Christopher Nolan and Crowley travelled to scout for locations in February and April 2019. Disappointed with the Royal Swedish Opera as a potential spot for the Kyiv Opera House, Crowley switched it to the Linnahall, which fit his affinity for Brutalist architecture. Shree Vardhan Tower was chosen instead of Antilia, as the latter had too high security; the National Liberal Club took the place of Sotheby's, whose management refused to participate; and they arrived at Cannon Hall once Thornhill Primary School in Islington and Channing School had been deemed unsatisfactory. Prop prototypes were often 3D printed. Costume designer Jeffrey Kurland and his team cut and stitched the clothing in the United States, manufacturing them for the main cast and thousands more.

Andrew’s Blu-ray Review: ‘T E N E T’ [2020] is mind boggling astronomical in the first minutes of the film. A mysterious new technology poses a threat to all existence; there are murmurs of a Third World War. But mysteriously the new technology hasn’t been invented yet. It will be in the future, though, and the CIA has caught wind of it.
In the opening sequence of ‘T E N E T’ is beautifully executed though it is, a whole auditorium of classical-music concert goers are put at risk of being blown up by an explosive device, a fact the protagonist seems to sort of laugh off. “Only the people in the cheap seats” might get killed. Not so much sympathy there for people experiencing “collective human engagement” together.
What unfolds is, essentially, Christopher Nolan’s version of a Cold War espionage thriller, slightly non plus James Bond film, but much more of a John le Carré genre film and has given us spectacular view with the brilliant cinematographer of Hoyte van Hoytema.
It requires an uncommon commitment from the audience and unconventionally structured films that takes you along for an amazing mysterious ride that is ‘T E N E T.’
The guy who has a monopoly on this tech in the future is a Russian oligarch named Andrei Sator [Kenneth Branagh] playing the same character he played in ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.’ To put an end to the dying Andrei Sator’s dastardly plan, which involves taking the world down with him, the Protagonist enlists the help of Andrei Sator’s estranged wife, a handler named Neil [Robert Pattinson], and the arms dealer Priya [Dimple Kapadia], in a more substantial role than you’d expect.
As always, Christopher Nolan’s images that was shot on the combination of 70 mm and IMAX film that are impossible to fault. The 747 heist sequence is, as advertised, is astonishing. And the promise of watching another impeccable action sequence is often enough to get you through some of the film’s more inscrutable moments. That being said, ‘T E N E T’ would have been infinitely more enjoyable had Christopher Nolan resisted the urge to explain the mechanics of his world at every turn.
But these moments are few and far between. Christopher Nolan’s filmmaking has often been criticised in the past for being too dispassionate, but despite how it may seem on the surface, all of his films have a beating heart at their core. Seek out ‘T E N E T,’ if only to marvel at the entertainingly inane glory of what we once had and are in danger of never having again. Well, that and the amazing suits.

Blu-ray Image Quality – Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Home Video presents us the film ‘T E N E T’ with a cinematic mind-bender inverts time and logic on Blu-ray with an exceptional, reference-quality 1080p image and alternates between 2.20:1 and 1.78:1 aspect ratios and was shot exclusively on 65mm and IMAX cameras, the freshly-minted transfer boasts remarkable dine definition, from the fine stitching in the clothing to the edges of buildings in the distance, are extraordinarily revealing, exposing the smallest imperfections in the roofs, the discrete cracks on the walls and the tiny pockmarks along the rocks and cliff sides. Even the many action-packed visuals are a stunning spectacle with striking clarity in every nook and cranny, in all the debris and the minute details of every reverse sequence. Brightness levels are always on target, supplying every scene with inky-rich, penetrating blacks and silky shadows that maintain superb visibility in the darkest, murkiest corners. Hoyte van Hoytema's stunning cinematography is also bathed in a sumptuous array of colors and flowing in luxurious, eye-catching primaries, from the lively emerald greens of foliage to the dramatic display of crimson reds and electrifying cobalt blues in the lighting of some scenes. Secondary hues are equally impressive as they jump off the screen with captivating vividness and animation, making the amazing visuals all the more mesmerizing and gives us a near three-dimensional image quality that's consistent, with a perfect, spotless HD presentation.
Blu-ray Audio Quality – Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Home Video brings us the film ‘T E N E T’ with one awesome 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio extravaganza experience that erupts on the scene with a tremendously bombastic loud noise. The audio mix is likely to impress you very much and will test your system as it is to have you scrambling for the remote to quickly adjust the volume. In fact, the audio design can be very annoyingly deafening that it distracts and hinders more than it serves a benefit to the story or produce a truly rewarding audio experience. The most egregious offense is the dialogue continuously overwhelmed by the grandiose action packed sequences, which honestly, would have been forgivable if not for the many conversations that is also drowned out by the endless noise and Ludwig Göransson's film score. And this is true even during the so-called quieter, more character-driven moments, which are pointlessly at a lower volume than the rest of the film. Amazingly, the audio design maintains outstanding clarity and distinction in the higher frequencies while the mid-range is splendidly extensive and dynamic, creating what would otherwise be a terrifically engaging soundstage had the filmmakers reined in the overall volume a bit. Interestingly, in spite of this positive, there doesn't appear to be much acoustical detailing or real appreciable distinction within Ludwig Göransson's musical arrangement. On a more positive note, the surrounds are endlessly employed, enveloping the listening area with various discrete atmospherics that flawlessly pan all around. From a busy restaurant full of patrons and the crowded streets of Mumbai to the hectic chaos of a military operation and a berserk, high-speed chase in Tallinn, ambient effects are heard from every direction, generating an awesomely immersive 360° sound field that's amazingly consistent. Also, an aggressively palpable and incredibly robust low-end delivers a room-energizing presence and wall-rattling weight to every bullet, crash and explosion and will test your subwoofer's capabilities.
